Glossary

  • Abeytu – (uh-bay'-tu), greenleaf; a tribe on the Biqah Prairie.
  • Adelaide – jungle land in the far north, heated from below by lava from the Chaos Wars.
  • Akhu Plains – (ä'-khü), meadow; the Akhu Plains west of the Sorgo Mountains.
  • Alaric – one of two twin brothers born to Roderick, king of Ingold; he worships one of the minor gods, and wants the throne when his father dies.
  • Ancient of Days – Storm's “new” name for the Lord of Light.
  • Arthur – one of Sodan's guards.
  • Azure Sea – the body of water between the Serpent Peninsula, the kingdom of Carrzulm, and the Midbar Desert. Opens to the Milchamah Ocean.
  • Bear Clan – barbarian tribe in the Rampart Mountains.
  • Ben – soldier in Breckinridge.
  • Bitstsah Swamp – (bits-tsä'), swamp or marsh; large swamp west of the kingdom of Carrzulm, inhabited by giants.
  • Biqah Prairie – (be-kä'), plain or level valley; the Great Prairie dominating the mid-section of Gaia, south of the Rampart Mountains, east of the Sorgo Mountains, west of the Shimmerwood, and north of the Cliff Mountains. Inhabited by numerous horse tribes who call themselves Biqah after the name of their homeland. The Riverlands are part of the Biqah Prairie.
  • Black Staff Inn – inn in Breckinridge, owned by Pritcher.
  • Blue Street – a street in Robling, named for the blue window trim used there, is famous for its gambling dens, shows, taverns and ladies of the evening.
  • Boldric – former wagon builder, one of Sodan's guards.
  • Breckinridge – small mountain city in the kingdom of Ingold.
  • Broken Staff – bar in Robling where Storm and Kreckin were in a bar fight together.
  • Buccaneers Cove – city at the mouth of the Tambar River where it empties into the Overdark Ocean on the southeast coast of Gaia.
  • Captain Ian Belker – former captain in the Ingoldian Army, now enslaved by Niran.
  • Carrzulm – (cär-zul'-em), decadent southern empire, bounded by the Azure Sea to the south and the Cliff Mountains to the east, north, and west.
  • Caryrstul & Sons – iron workers and manufacturers in the T'thalian Empire.
  • Chaos Wars – the wars which destroyed most of the minor gods, and nearly destroyed Gaia. The Chaos Wars signaled the end of the First Age.
  • Cliff Mountains – semi-circle of mountains surrounding the southern kingdom of Carrzulm; so named because they present cliff faces to the south, preventing any passage through them. On their east, north, and west faces they present normal mountain slopes.
  • Coast Mountains – long chain of low lying mountains along the eastern seaboard of Gaia, between the Overdark Ocean and the Plains of Aroon. They run from Beacon Point near the island empire of T'thalia, all the way north to the Marilas Federation.
  • Copper – unit of money; one copper coin. 1 gold crown = 5 silver sovereigns = 50 coppers.
  • Crendal – small ranching village about 100 leagues north of Zered, the birthplace of Ralt Gaither, at the base of the Coast Mountains and the Plains of Aroon.
  • Crown – unit of money; one gold coin. 1 gold crown = 5 silver sovereigns = 50 coppers.
  • Crowsotarri – (Crãw-so-tar'-ē), Wind In His Hair; chieftain of the Abeytu tribe on the Biqah Prairie. Father of Lorelei. Blood brother to Storm.
  • Cubit – unit of measure; 18 inches.
  • Crysmeir – the crystalline armor manufactured and used by the Biqah tribes. As strong as steel it weighs only a fraction as much. It even floats.
  • Derleth – a wizard enslaved by Niran.
  • Dolgun – one of Sodan's guards.
  • Drangor – third king of Thangadrim, Durin's father.
  • Drum Talk – Biqah method of drumming to spell out words when communicating over long distances. Similar to Morse code.
  • Durin – Great One; dwarf of the Shokirin; lived in Thangadrim during the First Age. Transformed into a statue by misfired magic, then awoken in the Third Age to become Captain of the Guard and chief adviser to Sodan.
  • Everhigh Pass – the only pass through the Cliff Mountains to the outside world, it comes through the mountain kingdom of Ingold.
  • Fairhand Mercers Company – aka, Merks; the caravan and mercantile company started and owned by Sodan.
  • Fathom – unit of measure; 6 feet or 4 cubits.
  • Fenris Fang – Durin's mystical axe, an artifact made for him during the First Age.
  • First Age – the time from the creation of Gaia until the Chaos Wars.
  • Fleyniria – kingdom bordering the Western Ocean, north of the Midbar Desert, and west of the Akhu Plains.
  • Frayen Smithson – Knight of the Realm, Baron, and Mayor of Breckinridge, formerly of the Ingoldian Army.
  • Gaia – the name of both the continent and the planet in the Universe of g-Minor.
  • Gerald Blackthorn – powerful wizard, friend to Sodan, and tutor who instructed Ralt in the magical arts. He provided the magic to separate Krista's soul from her body to halt the progress of her illness.
  • Ghibbore – (ghi-bōre'), mighty man; legendary heroes chosen before birth by the gods to be mighty warriors possessing magical powers. Also known as natural-born wizards.
  • Glory Hunters – common name for sell-swords who seek out fame and fortune.
  • Greeners – group that believes in absolute justice and equality. They wear green sashes. Krista is a Greener.
  • Gregory – one of Sodan's guards.
  • Gryreflex – (guy'-ruh-flex), twin city across the river from Thorginbelt, the capital of Fleyniria.
  • Gustov – innkeeper of the Watchman's Keep, an inn in Robling.
  • Horites – cave giants.
  • Hul – night guard in Breckinridge. Nephew of Pritcher, the owner of the Broken Staff inn.
  • Ingold – wealthy mountain kingdom between the Plains of Aroon and Carrzulm, renowned for it's many gold mines and greenhouses.
  • Jeffery – one of two twin brothers born to Roderick, king of Ingold; he worships the Lord of Light, and wants the throne when his father dies.
  • Kreckin – Sergeant in the town of Breckinridge.
  • Krista Fairhand – granddaughter of Sodan, fell deathly ill and can only be cured by Lamriack, a high priest of the Lord of Light in Robling.
  • La-Dan – island kingdom in the Western Ocean, directly west of Fleyniria. There is an active volcano on the island.
  • Lamriack – high priest of the Lord of Light in Robling, once pursued young Storm because his magic revealed something unusual about him, but never discovered what it was. Has the power to heal Krista's illness.
  • League – unit of measure, 1 miles.
  • Lorelei Abeytu – Child Of Heaven; daughter of Crowsotarri sent to find Storm to have him avenge her father's death. Horsewoman, archer, and now Storm's wife.
  • Lydia Strumbull – Storm's wife on earth. Died of cancer in 1968.
  • Manticore – winged lion with a fanged human head and spiked tail.
  • Marilas Federation – human/elf federation of kingdoms on the east coast of Gaia.
  • Mark Strumbull – Storm's name on earth. Disappeared in a hurricane the Bermuda Triangle at the age of 88. Reappeared on Gaia on Mid-Summer's Eve as an infant.
  • Midbar Desert – (mid-bär'), desert; the great desert in the southwestern corner of Gaia, east of the Bitstsah Swamp and south of Fleyniria.
  • Meredith Finn – Sodan's younger half-sister (different mother), aka the Dragon Lady.
  • Milchamah Ocean – (mil-chä-mä'), battle; the Battle Ocean, so named for the endless warfare between Carrzulm and T'thalia, and between Carrzulm and the desert people and kingdoms of the Midbar Desert.
  • Mina – unit of measure; 1¼ pounds.
  • Mount Coldfire – abandoned mine in Ingold, headquarters for Niran and his army.
  • Nadia – barbarian woman who found Storm, named him, adopted him, and raised him.
  • Nahor – (nä-hōre'), snorting; city-state at the southern end of Namak Lake. It has moved several times as the level of the lake has risen.
  • Namak – (nə-mak'), large lake or inland sea south of the Riverlands in the Biqah Prairie. More water comes in to it than leaves so the level has gradually risen over the centuries.
  • Nephilim – (nef'-i-lim), giants; the offspring of humans and Fallen Angels.
  • Niran – Imperial Sword Master of the T'thalian Empire, instructed Storm in his two-handed style of sword fighting. Now possesses an artifact which enslaves men and is trying to take over the world with it. Calls himself 'The Leader'.
  • Oak Flats – a broad plateau 3 leagues east of Breckinridge; Mallory family lived there.
  • Ogden – one of Sodan's guards.
  • Overhang Falls – the falls where Storm and his companions attacked Niran's forces in the lookout keep.
  • Overon – one of the kingdoms in the Marilas Federation.
  • Overdark Ocean – the eastern ocean.
  • Plains of Aroon – long plain running alongside the Coast Mountains in eastern Gaia, bounded on the west by Ingold and the Cliff Mountains.
  • Pebbles – a floating trail of rock and debris knocked off the moon during the Chaos Wars.
  • Pritcher – owner of the Broken Staff inn in Breckinridge.
  • Ralt Gaither – ¼ elven wizard, raised in Crendal, apprenticed to the wizard Gerald Blackthorn; great nephew and assistant to Sodan. Storm named him “Giant's Bane” after he managed to kill a giant with a single blow to the back of the head.
  • Rampart Mountains – mountain range running east to west, coast to coast, across the northern part of Gaia.
  • River of Sorrows – river cutting through the Shimmerwood to encircle the Marilas Federation.
  • Robling – capital city of the mountain kingdom of Ingold.
  • Rogar – a wagon master Storm once worked for.
  • Roderick – fat old king of the mountain kingdom of Ingold; father of Alaric and Jeffery.
  • Sairaw – city-state at the southern tip of the Sorgo Mountains. The gateway between the Akhu Plains and the Biqah Prairie.
  • Sandy Point – small, coastal city on the eastern shore of the Overdark Ocean, home of Meredith Finn, and famous for being disliked.
  • Second Age – a terrible time of chaos, confusion, and barbarism resulting from the devastation of the Chaos Wars.
  • Sergeant Eckhardt – one of Niran's loyal servants.
  • Serpent Peninsula – southeastern peninsula separating the Azure Sea and the Overdark Ocean. The southern tip resembles a snake head, hence the name.
  • Shimmerwood – western part of the Marilas Federation, the ancient forest where the elves hold power.
  • Silvenwood – one of the kingdoms in the Marilas Federation.
  • Shokirin – First Ones, powerful dwarves who lived in Thangadrim during the First Age.
  • Sodan Fairhand – wealthy merchant in Zered, grandfather to Krista.
  • Sorgo Mountains – located about 2/3 of the way west across Gaia, it descends from the Rampart Mountains, separating the Biqah Prairie from the Akhu Plains.
  • Sovereign – unit of money; one silver coin. 1 gold crown = 5 silver sovereigns = 50 coppers.
  • Specter – Storm's horse.
  • Span – unit of measure; the width of man's hand, 4 inches.
  • Storm – born on earth, transported to Gaia as an old man and restored to infancy, raised by the barbarian Bear Clan in the Rampart Mountains. Husband of Lorelei Abeytu, blood brother with her father, Crowsotarri.
  • Talent – unit of measure; 75 pounds.
  • T'thalia – a collection of islands southeast of Gaia in the Overdark Oceans. Formerly they were independent kingdoms and pirate strongholds until 500 years ago when they were united by Thal One-Eye, their first emperor.
  • Tagil Sea – small sea north of Fleyniria, opens into the Western Ocean.
  • Tambar River – river that runs out of the Coast Mountains, down the eastern side of the Plains of Aroon, and past the city-state of Zered.
  • Thangadrim – hidden somewhere in the vast, icy reaches of the Rampart Mountains to the far north, it was said to be a titanic, underground fortress used by the gods.
  • when they visited the mortal realms. Thought to have been destroyed in the Chaos Wars.
  • The Leader – the name chosen by Niran when he became an evil warlord bent on world conquest, starting with the mountain kingdom of Ingold.
  • The Sword – noticeable constellation in the sky.
  • Third Age – current age on Gaia.
  • Thomas Keener – sergeant of the guard for Sodan, archer and gambler.
  • Thorginbelt – capital of the kingdom of Fleyniria.
  • Thorizdum – desert capital in the Midbar Desert.
  • Throne – unit of money, aka, Tri-Crown; worth 3 gold coins or crowns.
  • Thurman Meadows – wide grassy meadow on the main road in Ingold, between the Army's post #4 and Robling.
  • Toagee River – (toe'-uh-gee), a river in the western mountains of Ingold.
  • Tulish – a wizard enslaved by Niran.
  • Unknown Land – the bulging, snake-like head of the Serpent Peninsula, said to be populated by fierce giants but no one has ever come back alive to verify it.
  • Vamer – Storm’s adopted barbarian father in the Bear Clan,
  • Vaneer – capital city of the T'thalian Empire.
  • Watchman's Keep – an inn on Blue Street in Robling, known for it's sturdy wall safes in every room; located in the Old City.
  • Wicked Mermaid – an inn on Blue Street in Robling with a lewd reputation.
  • Wilfred – one of Sodan's guards.
  • William – one of Sodan's guards.
  • Xyphren – former Nephilim, now a demon enslaved by The Leader, aka, Niran.
  • Zered (zeh́-red), eastern city-state on the foothills of the Coast,
  • Mountains overlooking the Plains of Aroon. The Tambar River flows past it.
  • Zul – capital city of the southern kingdom of Carrzulm.
