Before he wrote his famous trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, J. R. R. Tolkien wrote a delightful little book called, The Hobbit. It concerned the adventures of a reluctant hobbit or halfling, named Bilbo Baggins. Many years later, of course, both the trilogy and The Hobbit were made into movies.
Despite its relatively short length, The Hobbit was broken into three movies. The second one was called The Desolation of Smaug. Smaug was a walking, talking, flying fire-breathing dragon who’d slaughtered a kingdom of dwarves and taken over their home, along with all their treasure. In the process, the dragon laid waste to everything around the Lonely Mountain where the dwarves had their home.
The dragon kept all the money to himself and immediately pounced on anyone who tried to take so much as a single coin of it. Apparently, the dragon also had a nasty habit of eating anyone who approached the Lonely Mountain once he’d taken control of it.
The resulting barren, lifeless landscape around the mountain was called the Desolation of Smaug.
Democrat Controlled Cities
If you replace the dragon with Democrats (funny how they both start with the letter ‘D’) and the Lonely Mountain with any city controlled by Democrats, the similarities between them are eerie and disturbing. The deserted, crumbling houses, the filth and decay, the sheer drab dreariness of it all, coupled with the smog (Smaug?) in the air creates a hopeless miasma of misery and depression.
There’s never enough money to pay for police or road repairs but somehow there’s always enough to pay for upgrades to City Hall or a shiny new Civic Centers where the Democrats can show off. Like the dragon, the Democrats horde all the money to themselves, and if someone tries to clean up their mess, they have a nasty habit of eating them. Well, not really, but considering how viciously they attack and destroy their lives and reputations, it’s mostly a matter of semantics.
God Called It
Long before either Tolkien’s dragon or the Democrats, God told us about these things in the Bible. In this case, specifically in Proverbs 21:7.
The violence of the wicked will destroy them, because they refuse to do justice.
The original word for violence is the Hebrew word שֹׁד, which means spoil, destruction, desolation, robbery, wasting, oppression, devastation, ruin. It is listed as H7701 in Strong’s Concordance and is pronounced shōde.
Anyone who hasn’t been seduced by the “Dark Side” of the Democrat’s evil silken tones will be forced to admit that a refusal to do justice is a key component of their blighted ideology. Witness the sham “investigation” into President Trump’s phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for example. Secret tribunals in the basement on Capital Hill and a rush to judgment signal the Democrat’s utter refusal to do justice. That’s just one example; there are thousands of such examples from all around the country.
God says their own violence/desolation will destroy them but He didn’t say when it would happen. It may not come in this lifetime, depriving us of a bit of schadenfreude, but it will come. And when it does, they will be ‘without excuse’.
So, take heart. Jesus has overcome the world even if the world refuses to believe it. Keep fighting the good fight because in the end, we’re on the winning side – God’s side.
